A Fortnight in April

This is just a snapshot of the kind of events and visits undertaken by the Lieutenant-Governor and Mrs Cripwell over a relatively quiet two week period in April. In between are a dozen other meetings, dinners, phone calls and guests but there is also quieter times spent walking their dog, Mustard and stopping to breathe and enjoy the Island they have come to call home.

On Thursday 13th, members of the French Community in Guernsey were invited to a drinks reception at Government House and then on Friday, His Excellency enjoyed a visit from the French Naval Attaché alongside Odile Blanchette, the Honorary consul for France.

On Saturday Mrs Cripwell headed out to the KGV to attend the Parkinson's Awareness Day taking place there in the Spensley Room whilst His Excellency was torn as to who he should be supporting when he went to watch the Army v Islands Volley Ball Match at Les Beaucamps School. That evening they both took in a show at Beau Sejour, seeing GADOC's production of the Dolly Parton hit '9 to 5'.

Monday 17th brought another visit to the KGV as His Excellency and Mrs Cripwell visited Headway Guernsey to find out more about their facilities and the difference they make to those islanders suffering from head trauma. That evening it was the turn of Mrs Cripwell to host a reception at Government House when Autism Guernsey, a charity of which she is patron, held their 10th Anniversary attended by Baroness Pitkeithley, Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords and a 'Guernsey Girl' who launched the Charity 10 years ago.

There was a trip to Sark for the Lieutenant-Governor on Wednesday 19th, this time accompanied by his ADC where they attended Chief Pleas on Wednesday and then embarked on a tour of the Sark Estate on the Thursday before eventually getting home around the fog. 

Friday included a visit to the award-winning Guernsey Clematis to meet with Raymond Evison OBE who has been breeding and developing clematis for six decades and showed them round his vinery established back in 1985. 

A quieter weekend followed before His Excellency visited the Digital Greenhouse on Monday 24th. His Excellency had heard many good things about this Guernsey initiative. It was established in 2016 and dedicated to collaborative working on the island and giving real, practical assistance to entrepreneurs and the business and creative community. Mrs Cripwell attend a Rotary Guernesiais event that evening. 

On Tuesday 25th, His Excellency went to see the Rededication of the Air Training Corps Cadet Promise before heading to spend a day in the States of Deliberation on Wednesday. 

Thursday meant it was time for another speech, this time on the subject of his choosing, as the Lieutenant-Governor was guest speaker at the Friends of Rotary Lunch at the Villette Hotel.
