Investitures for St John Knight Commanders
Government House hosted the Knights of the Priory of St John for the investiture of two Knight Commanders, John Hollis and Marc Farror, the former and current Knight Commanders of St John Guernsey. It was the most well constructed and truly engaging piece of pageantry we have seen here for a long time and we felt very privileged to have hosted the Prior of the organisation along with the Director of Ceremonies and Head of Chancery, who came from the U.K. to conduct the investitures.
Invited guests and members of St John were invited to attend the ceremony, rarely seen on the islands as initiates usually travel to the UK for investitures. Some of the St John Guernsey volunteers were very happy to play a part in the ceremony themselves, carrying the cross, the sword and the banner of St John.
It was a truly engaging ceremony, with readings and prayers and a speech from His Excellency, himself a Commander of St John and a rousing chorus of the National Anthem.
Marc Farror is now the Knight Commander of St John Guernsey, having taken over from John Hollis who had a stroke soon after he became Knight Commander himself, back in 2023.
