Saffery Rotary Walk Awards Evening

The popular annual walk around the island, hosted by sponsors, Saffery Champness and the Rotary Club Guernsey, took place on Saturday June 10th this year and as the summer season in Guernsey comes to a close, it is once again time to top up those final sponsorship monies collected and hand out the cheques to the charities chosen to benefit from the event this year.

Over a thousand people took part in the walk in its 25th year, a record-breaking number that included people who had travelled to the island from as far afield as South Africa and Barbados just to take part in this walk of 39 miles of stunning coastline.

Representatives from twenty five local charities have been invited to the reception at Government House to be presented with their cheques by the Lieutenant-Governor and they will have an opportunity to thank the main sponsor and many of the other companies who assisted as delivery partners, checkpoint sponsors and a variety of other jobs needed to support such a huge event.

His Excellency has not yet been tempted to compete the walk but did go along to the Le Gouffre where they were serving breakfast and met a number of walkers enjoying their bacon and sausage baps. He reported that everybody had been in great spirits and ranged from those wolfing down their buns, keen to keep going and those determined to make the most of the chair and multiple cups of tea on offer and appeared to have relaxed for a more laid back affair.

The award reception will also see some awards to the walkers themselves including the oldest and youngest walkers and the best #selfie.
